Default 1998 ultra with non original paint.

Ok experts. How much value is taken away from a bike with non original paint. Guy up here has a 98 ultra with low miles. 33000 some. Bike is in real nice shape and the paint seems to be well done. It’s has been painted an orange and black color scheme like later bikes. Not a bright orange. I would rather have an original bike and he was originally way off on price. If it was all stock with paint I would probably give him around $6000 but in my eyes it is worth less with the paint.

It’s the copper and black I think. Not orange.

Kind of like this. This is not the bike.

No expert here. Custom color may add to price. Unless you are going to enter into EOM factory bike competition, I would worry more about the mechanics of the bike. Lots of other things affect the pricing of a bike. What is important is that the seller and buyer can come to an agreement.

98 Ultra is a nice bike. Good luck.

Yep. Probably the best Evo year. That’s why I’m interested. That and the low miles. The paint does seem to be well done.

What's wrong with your mostly stock 94 Ultra? :-)

How's the 81 FLT holding up? I'm seriously considering putting a cone shovel engine into my 89 FLH frame someday, when the Evo engine needs a refresh. From what I've researched, all I need is the top engine mount bracket from 80-83 FLT and exhaust that will mount up. Got any close up pic of your FLT top motor mount you can post?

Round numbers, Evo baggers are $4k to $5k bikes right now.

Maybe a smidge higher for newer/cleaner/lower miles. Maybe a smidge less for worse condition. Total beaters/basket cases are $1k to 1.5k ish.

Just not a huge market for them.

My $0.02 on resprays goes like this: If its a really well done, "looks like it could have come from the factory" kind of job, then its mostly neutral on value. If its a true custom job (ie, ghost flames, airbrushed wolves/pirates/skulls/topless girls etc), then its a huge negative.

Based on your description, I'd put the ceiling at your $6k, and that's if you really like the paint.

But numbers don't mean much on this. There is such a thin market for these bikes, it really comes down to a particular buyer and a particular seller coming together.

Your right. There is only a few goofballs like us that are even in the market for Evo bikes. Most people want the newest bike for the least money. They have no idea what fantastic bikes these are. I’ll see if I can get a good pic of the top motor mount on the Flt.

It looks pretty nice, but as others have said...I wouldn't go over 6K for it. Take it for a ride and see if anything weird is going on and if you want it....buy it

Offer the guy $4,500 for it and see what happens. The worst he can do is take a swing at you.
