***UPDATE***

Shop finally called today. The check engine light ended up being a low voltage code caused by a loose relay switch so the Magnetti Marelli is off the hook!

The EV-13 has been installed along with a Torrington bearing, my donated 97 ECM (thank you Diablo Dainese), new air cleaner and power commander V. A new map was loaded and they plan on doing some heat cycles tomorrow. I wasn't aware of the need for heat cycling for a cam install. Is this normal?

Too damn cold and and icy to ride so unfortunately the bike goes back into storage. Plan on hearing it run after work on Wednesday. It's going to be a long spring.

Great news. If you think of it when you pick up your bike, ask them what that code number was and what relay had the loose connection.

I plan on doing exactly that. This past summer I had my starter switch go bad while on a road trip near Sturgis. Black Hills Harley put in a new switch (had to solder and splice a newer part #) and replaced the starter relay along with cleaning up the electrical connections on the right side cover. I suspect it might have been that but want to know the code to confirm.

Got a chance to listen to the bike post install of the EV-13. The idle sounds so much better than I anticipated. Maybe even too low? Tech is going to double check the idle before I pick it up later this week.

Maybe a little low. What RPM's is it idling at? Should be 900-1000

No tach but i mentioned that it sounds a tad too slow. Service manager estimated probably in the 850 range. Would kinda agree with that. He said he would double check the idle speed after it leaves the wash rack.

As said before, my MMI injection is still running strong and at 165,000 (and 19 years?) old it still runs fine even after a 3 month put up.

Evo's can idle down around 775-800 and still sound great and live long, happy lives. (Mine did anyway.) Both 1995 FXD and 1996 FLHRI...

Thanks for the post Norty. I kept my expectations of the sound to a minimum but I was actually shocked how much better it sounds. Here is a clip of the "before" idle.

Don't forget, there is a hot idle and a cold idle.

Cold should be about 1250. Hot, as stated above, 900-1000.
