I have a 1996 Electra Glide with floating rotors and a 1996 Road King with stock rotors … both bike are running the same brake pads, Lyndall Z Plus, in stock single piston calipers … I don't really notice a huge difference between the two bikes when it come to stopping power … both stop equally well … as far as I can remember I have not had the need to do a panic stop in the recent past, so I don't have a comparison for that …

Don't know what you have. But I also had a 96 Electra Glide. After a short while front rotors warped, replaced them with floaters, never touched them again, sold it with 65,000 miles on it. I also have a 98 softail that i put a floater on the front just because. It just seems like a common sense thing, but that's just me.

Like Freedom mentioned, I don't notice a differance in stopping power but it does seem smoother to me

Floating rotors are less apt to warp... They cool better then solids....

Both of my 1996 models have over 100k … have not had any trouble with either … originally put on the floaters as an upgrade, the stock rotors had not warped

currently I'm rebuilding a 1996 Sportster … I plan to use stock rotor and caliper with Lyndall Z Plus pads … simply because I have not had any problems with the stock rotors …

I have an 87 Electra Glide Classic, she's been my pet project for the past year. I wanna spruce up the rotors from stock. Look, I know. She's a 31 year old bike. I probably have as much in it as I paid for it, but, she's mine, and she looks good, and knock on wood, the engine and tranny is is good shape. Here's a pic

If you only have spent as much as the original purchase price on upgrades for your bike, you're just getting started.
