Default Case O-ring lip

This has been discussed in a few posts. There are a few ways of fixing the crack or broken o-ring lip, and it depends on the severity of the break. There are expensive ways and inexpensive ways. Some options are: replace left side case, weld a new lip or parts, use the James Gasket "save a case," grind lip off and use silicone/gasket, or do nothing. Again, lots of ways depending on what you want to do.

In my particular case, I had about a 1.5" chip, so it was not severe. Fortunately, there's no load on the lip. It's just there to have a place for the o-ring.

I chose to use JB Steelstick, because it can be molded to fill the shape of the chip better than the traditional JB weld (tubes) that you have to mix, which may fill cracks better. Steelstick cures quickly, but I let it cure overnight, and put some Permatex threadlocker (green) around the weld, so it can weep into the weld and case to make a stronger bond. Sand it down to smoothness. I think this is going to work for me, and it was $8. Just a option for you. If it doesn't work, you can always go for the more expensive option.

The green loctite will do nothing to help stick the JB to the case...the JB will almost certainly let go after enough heat/cool cycles...

I would use the "save a case" gasket... or run a belt drive...

That might be the result, and I'll let you know when, or if it does. I'm gonna reinforce that with duct tape. That's the winning combination. Thanks for the reminder.

I have a car here that got the edge of the flange broke off front crank pully.
I did what you did above.
Art work!
This was 60000 thousand miles ago!
.Of course this sort of keeps the belt lined up and is spinning crank speed..
No problems thus far.
Rolll with it.

^^^
While the Loctite ... being an Anaerobic, will do Nothing for that repair... How hot do we guess a Head Fin gets???
Had one "glued" on for 15 Years!!!!
I like your fix just fine... but, I'm afraid the one place it will Not work as well... is on a Rubbermount situation... these seem harder on the Inner primary..
4-speed???? hell ya prolly get away with No Primary whatsoever... On newer models.... I guess I would Try it anyway...

The motor does flex enough to break that lip, I would take it to a welder and have them put a new bead on or you can grind it all down and put in the primary gaskets saver by cometic. I use that on mine cuz mine's missing as well.

Guessing is good.
It keeps life from getting all boring and mundane on you.
