Default How to fix droopy mirror

I intend to keep my ugly square mirror stock on 1998 evo fatboy, problem is 20 years old bike is 20 years old, so the mirror does not hold itself well anymore, it would droop or twisting by itself during a ride with all that vibration. Is there any trick to fix the lose mirror? Tried tightening the two screws beside where the mirror pivot on the ball of the stem to no luck.

Nope, couldn't find that exact one. Mine is the last version of that ugly square mirror with "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" writting on the face, couldn't find that one so far.

Try red loctite, consider an upgrade or machine a new part.

Red loctite sounds promising. Is it possible to take the assembly apart to machine/fix without breaking the mirror? Upgrade is out of question because I intend to keep my bike bone stock including the mirror. Not because I don't wanna spend on new mirror but I just want to have a bone stock looking evo, I have my TC to hack, cut and blow.

I used some super glue to keep my mirror from moving.

Fixed a floppy mirror on a classic car by doing this: Lay the mirror, glass side down on a bench, and loosen the two screws. Scrape some sand off of a sheet of fine sandpaper. Work the sand into ball/socket by rotating the stem in a circular motion. Lightly tighten the screws, and reinstall the mirror. Adjust the mirror to your liking, and firmly tighten the screws. Mirror hasn't moved since.
