Engine noise help
So I had the heads reconditioned. New pistons and bore. I replaced the oem cam with a ev13. New lifters and screaming eagle adjustable push rods. This is on 89 fltc if it matters.
I have pretty loud valve train noise. At least louder than before. I adjusted the pushrods twice. What I didn’t do was prime the oil pump. I get oil pressure on the gauge but I do notice sometimes is bounces around. Sometimes it will drop real low. And sometimes get real high. But over all it stays around 10-20 psi.
Do I need to bleed the pump. Is that causing my noise?

Just my opinion but it's not the oil pump. Not unusual to see air bubbles in the oil on these egg beater so called dry sump motors.
Have you used a two ear mechanic's stethoscope to determine what and just hearing the loudest noise?
Another is just how much you are into the lifter. Lifters pump to no clearance. There is also just a tad of ramp past the base low cam diameter that lifter pumps to.
Keep in mind, the valve spring can bleed off any excess which is the lifter bleed. Without this, the valve would not seat.
i would carefully adjust the adjuster to spec. No more. Then truely make sure with stethoscope what you hear. Some noise hurts nothing.
That lead ramp could be some of your noise. The valve seating could be some . On solids lifters, .010 on exaust is pretty quite. ..013 can be heard. However, it hurts nothing.
Did you check the critical small clearance between lifter and their bores.

No. I didn’t check. Ok give it another shot. To be honest. I’ve been riding it with no problems..at least 6 hours on the bike. I didn’t really notice the noise till a buddy mentioned it...then I started reading posts on that the engine should be quiet.
I do remember it not being noisey as it is now.

Well. I went out and looked over the bike. Found both silencer pipe clamps were loose. I think the sound I’m hearing is the sucking at the air cleaner! Lol. I mean there’s ticking from the engine. I’m gonna check out the primary chain too. See if it’s loose. Trying to eliminate all possibilities. I’m gonna redo the pushrods again also another day and see what happens
