Default Evo Tool Kit

Hey boys,

So after having a minor roadside event this weekend, and having to "phone a friend" to get tools, I realized that I need to stop dragging my feet on buying that toolbag for my bike.

Has anyone here created the Master List of needed tools to stock a bag for an Evo? This sounds like a Prot or Graham kind of post, but others might have this also.

-Tool-less in Oklahoma

I just used tools in South Central OK yesterday. Highways 69 and 75. How about that?

Get a fork bag. Fill it with pawn shop tools or go nuts at Harbor Freight, then put it in the saddle bag. Combination wrenches from 1/4" to at least 9/16". Set of allen wrenches and if you have room, 3/8" drive allen sockets. 3/8" drive socket and a wobble extension or two. "Mexican Speed Wrench," AKA adjustable wrench, AKA "Crescent wrench" of at least 10 inches and big enough for the back axle nut (1-1/16".) Standard size vice grips. Side cutters. Needle nose pliers. 3/8" drive sockets, preferably 6 point, but whatever you can find cheap. Screw driver that takes bits. Set of screwdriver bits. 10mm combination wrench. Zip ties. Length of wire. 1/4" 12 point socket. Spark plug socket. A standard #2 Phillips screwdriver. A smaller flat blade screw driver long enough to adjust the carb. Mini vice grips.

The crescent wrench and standard size vice grips may or may not fit in the tool bag, but I consider them essential. With that, you can take apart and put back together 90% of your bike.

Every time I start making a list and thinking about what could go wrong I end up with 1/2 my tool box on the list.
I recently bought a small kit from Amazon

Add the Speed Wrench and a 1/4" 12 point socket and/or combination wrench (critical) for tightening down lifter blocks and that would about do it. I still think a small 3/8" socket set is needed too. Even just the ratchet and a strip of sockets. They don't take up much space. Oh, if you're planning on pulling a head, you'll need a 12 point socket for that.

This is specifically why I am asking the experts. Otherwise I will end up with a tourpak full of tools... And I don't have a tourpak!

Can not emphasis enough the importance of a Vice Grip. it may not be pretty but it will fix or help you fix a ton of problems. Don't leave home without it. Then electrical tape and zip ties.

10 MM in case you have to disconnect battery,a small vise grip-helps turn screwdriver and the screws to carb float bowl.
