Default 98 Road King

Did a bike night at Dealer and found a red 98 Road King. The bike looks in awesome condition and has had one owner who purchased bike at that dealer. All service records are available. All stock except mufflers and chromed switches and forks. Bike has 102k miles. Priced at $4900. New wsw tires. Damn near looks like garage queen. Y’all think this is a reasonable purchase?

Maybe, depends on what has been done preventive maintenance wise to the engine. I'd be thinking lifter and cam bearing change out. Offer him $4500 to start.

Thats a lot for 102k. But then again it depends on what maintenance has been done. Check the rear shocks they definitely don't last that long. Front suspension should have at least 3 " from the bottom of the cow bells to the taper in the lowers. What about the Primary chain? Trans and Starter...? The oem oil pumps last no problem. Like Hackd said what about the cam lifters and cam Bearing. Valve jobs? Records? I would go over it with a FINE toothed comb.... One more thing, is it Injected or carbed... MM injection wasn't the greatest and a lot of guys on here have converted to carb... Theres a lot other $5k bikes out there with less miles but TLC is the real deal...

If you're looking specifically for an Evo Road King they were only put out in 97 and 98, after that it's Twin Cam. It has the 97-08 frame. If it's a MM EFI plan on spending 1k for a cv carb conversion. If it's already a carb model you're good.

I hunted around for exactly the last model Evo in the newest frame. I wanted the simplest Road King.

If you're not that guy...pass. At any rate, that price seems to be a bit on the high side, even if you are that guy.

I would ask for service records just to see what exactly has been done to the bike. For example, if there was a top end done at say 80K miles, then you're good to go. If it looks nice outside, more than likely it was taken cared of inside. The high mileage is your bargaining chip if there hasn't been any engine work.

If it were me, and no engine work, then I would not pay more than $3,500 for the bike. This also depends on your market area.

That is not correct. The first year of the Road King was 1994... I've been looking for one.. they are truly a beautiful machine...

I could have wrote that better...Evo Road King with newer 97-08 frame.

If I had to choose one bike, it would be the Road King, beautiful machine in every way.

Last year I purchased a 1996 Road King from my dealer, 108k miles, carbed, needed some engine work ... $3850 out the door ... it was a deal I was happy with

Bike has carb! Come to find out, service records are weak. Previous owner did all his own service except for tires, carb work and other maintenance items. No indication of top end work, cam bearing or lifters. Also found out bike was dropped and damage included engine guard and bill was about $4k back in “02”.

She’s puking a little gas and runs rough at low rpm cruise but the fuel was rank from sitting and was low.
