Default Clutch slippage after cam and ignition upgrade!!

I have an 89 FLHS with 25k that I recently had an indy install an EV27 cam and single fire ignition with lifters and pushrods. When I stepped on it from 3rd gear up the clutch slipped and I had to back off. It runs great but I can't live with this clutch and don't know if upgraded springs are needed or complete clutch assy. I had no previous problems with the clutch. Any thoughts or reccs?

You don't need the uprated clutch with an EV27 but you should adjust it correctly and see what the go is and if that doesn't work then pull the clutch apart and see if it needs plates.

What was replaced should not have affected the clutch.
Have it adjusted.

Thumbs up

I agree with the above. I used an EV27 and replacement ignition for many years without problems, using the stock clutch. Until recently I continued to use the stock clutch with only a stronger spring with my S&S 107". If adjusting it by the book doesn't fix it you may have to dismantle it along with the operating mechanism, to check things over.

Also check the spring plate to make sure the rivets are still good and haven't come loose or fallen out.

Glad you got it fixed. It's interesting, the "c" post on the pressure plate gives the least pressure. So long as the bow is with-in specs, it worked! Still, it's an interesting solution.------------------------RJ

R Joe - I had researched a lot of old threads on this topic and one guy said he had the same problem and adjuster was set on B and he switched it to C and his slipping stopped, so I gave it a shot and the first fifteen minute test drive it did not slip at all when I accelerated hard from a downshift to third or fourth!! It has been cold and wet here the last two weeks so I will test it out next week when it should be dry and in low 70's.

Frog Nuts - My indy charges $50 per hour and does great work. I had alot of work done, rear tire, EV27, twin tec single fire ignition and coil, oil/filter, reseal rocker boxes, for around $1300. I think the ignition/coil made the biggest difference but I haven't put 100 miles on it yet due to weather. I have a Super B carb that was choking and spitting sometimes when I accelerated quickly or cruising at lower speeds and that seems to have been eliminated also. Only an occasional spit back but nothing like before. Good luck
