Default James metal/silicone cam cover gasket question

Anyone use these? My question is - since this gasket may be thicker than a regular fiber gasket, would this cause cam end play problems? Thicker cam cover gasket=thicker cam shim? Im swapping in an Andrews EV27. Any thoughts?

Don't think it'll be an issue.. cam end play is up to 050".

Would you not measure the end play anyway when you swap a cam? Id shoot for 10 thousands end play with the new gasket. .

If you happen to get your hands on fiber gasket you could measure the difference and calculate.

The end play tolerance on this is ALOT. As said 10 is a good number to shoot for.

Ruggs59, yes I will measure everything, but right now I am still in the "parts ordering" step of the cam swap. With fiber gasket most likley I'd need a .055 cam shim, just wondering if I should order a few thicker ones if using the metal gasket. Thanks for the replies.

hear is the skinny - in order to get the correct distance you need to torque the cover on with the gasket in place - some gaskets have a red splather on them - BUT if you remove it that becomes a broken seal for the cover < we stopped using it

we only use the paper OEM style and or the Cometic AMF - foam over thin alloy as that happens to seal real well and its re usable just like the paper

at times a moron has been using a hammer and screwdriver to remove a stuck cover and the foam is a great add for us in the shop as it form fits locations stupid people have been

the spec is .010 to .016 on the cam the 10 is always preferred

Thanks, I'll check out the Cometic foam/metal gaskets.

I have seen where the paper gasket was still stuck in place and the end play was set using the old gasket. Then replaced upon final assembly
