You've obviously replaced or fixed anything that might be holding you back does the starter get really hot ? That will show if it's not happy the starter staying on is a clue too, how's the center tank switches all good ?
Sometimes it's something you just haven't thought off.
Try shorting it to start at the solenoid man use a big *** screwdriver see if it turns freely that way.

Starter does not get hot. I will have to look for this solution. Thanks.

This is a brand new S&S, like 1200 miles. But it did the same on my old tired *** oem Evo.

And my bike does it sometimes also. Especially when the battery is getting a bit weak. My bike is a battery killing machine. I go through about one a year. Two years is "Wow, that one lasted a long time."
I will try these tests as soon as I can (again) and report back.

Interesting. I had not heard of this idea before and it leaves me wondering.

Can't imagine having to replace the All ***** one, but maybe....

I will give this some thought.

Not doubting you, just wanted to educate myself more on this. I went looking for information about Spyke's gear reduction that will spin that motor faster and didn't really find anything. Do you have some reading material you can point me to? Also, how did you know that Ultima is a copy of the Spyke one?

Spyke claims 46% more cranking torque than stock using a standard battery...first time you push the start button you will believe it...my Harley starter wouldn't turn it that fast with the plugs out...

As far the ultima being a copy...look at the two and make your own decision...

Looks like that "Spyke Super Torque" with 46% more cranking torque started in '89 with the later model starters...

But it does look like the ones for my model (1987) are "1.4 Kw rating, which is up to 200% more torque than stock. In-creas-ed cranking speed and low amperage-draw design delivers fast, reliable starts with less battery drain."

According to their site anyway. I will give them a buzz and talk about the different gear reduction.

In the mean time I would expect that an All ***** should throw over a 1340 without much effort. So I still think I have a problem elsewhere.

I have done it...but I used a newer trans also.

The hole on the trans is too small for the newer starter...I have heard you can get it machined, but never tried it.
