Default Raised Tanks and Fuel Flow issues???

I see a lot of guys raising the tanks, specifically the front. I love the look, as it really creates a nice angle.

But are there problems with fuel flow? The petcock on my FXSTC is towards the front of the tank, and I can't begin to guess how much of my fuel would be stranded in the rear.

Is this just one of those "the price of cool is performance" type situations?

I may still do it.

Not a super-big job to move the outlet bung.

You have 2 options,
#1. raise the rear too.
#2. get a newer year tank with the petcock farther back so you can at least use the fuel in the rear of the left tank. Once the fuel drops below the crossover tube whatever's left in the right side is useless.
I removed my lift because I lost about a gallon of useable gas.

I was thinking about the crossover tube (or whatever it is called) also...

This is what I was thinking, exactly... Has anyone converted to newer style single-tanks? I cannot for the life of me figure out the benefit in the dual-tank setup.

A single tank won't work unless you change the dash and wiring.
You could get a later year tank with the petcock farther back and have a rear cross over tube added.

Matt if you are bound and determined to do this foolish thing and you still want to swap tanks (after you clean the rust out and line yours) then I should tell you the tanks I sent you a picture of already has the petock in the rear of the tanks.
However if you're gonna add a rear crossover then you need to talk to a painter as the tanks will probably have to be repainted.
Cutting a hole and welding a nipple on a piece of painted metal doesn't do wonderful things for the paint.

All that said there ain't no way I'd do it but it's your bike do what makes you happy.

Which would be easier than adding a crossover to the rear

I doubt I will... it's just giving me something to think about. I was trying to envision where the rear crossover hose would go, and I think it would look hideous.
