Default 1985 FLHT Rear Brake fitment.

I could use some advice. My rear brake caliper on my /86 FLHT is shot. Never did work very well and when I opened it up to do a rebuild found corroded caliper so new pistons will not seal. I have owned the bike a few years and was told it sat outside several years prior with a pooched engine. I had engine rebuilt and am working on updating/replacing everything else. Right now I need a cost effective rear brake. I ordered a caliper for 84 to 96 evo but it is a single piston, different gap for pins so will not bolt to my caliper mounting plate.
So here is my question, can I get a caliper mounting bracket that will work with my existing rotor and rear swing arm which will allow me use my new single piston caliper?
Thanks for any help/advice.

Check an on-line parts website, to confirm which caliper you actually have. There is one used on 84/5 models only, which is 2-piston, then in '86 a single-piston caliper was introduced, which ran through all models until around 1999. That link will also show you what other parts you will need, which may be available secondhand. Any queries then come back!

For future reference always check the correct parts you require on a proper H-D information source, such as that link, before ordering, do not rely on dealers. As you have discovered you were sold the wrong parts.

Default Good info

Thanks for the link. Yes my caliper is the 2 piston which is why such a pita to find. Even rebuild kit was a challenge.

So the parts site confirmed what I have is the 84-85 two piston caliper. As I now have a new single piston can I use the single piston setup with my existing rotor and swing arm? Finding a 84-85 only caliper new is not happening and mine is too far gone to rebuild.

If you use an 86-99 rear bracket...shouldn't be too tuff to make work...will almost surely have to mess with the spacers. If I remember correctly the rotor that was used with that caliper is too thick to work with the single piston caliper...and those are impossible to find as well.

Thanks for the redirect to a backplate. Rotor thickness could be an issue as you mentioned. Maybe I can get it turned at local machine shop. Worth a shot as cant ride as is now.

Those thick rotors are impossible to find...may be surprised what it would bring on ebay if it is in good shape.
