Default Clutch cable issues

I just installed 15" ape hangers on my 1997 FLHT and after installing the clutch cable ( 8" extended length ) I cannot get the cable adjustment to tighten up as there is a considerable amount of adjustment to get the clutch adjusted. I have also tried to install a EZ clutch spacer on the cable thinking that would take up enough slack but no luck. There is no excess cable and I'm thinking that the cable is not right. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Back off the clutch adjust a bunch. Push in on the cable to ensure that the ramp inside the trans is properly oriented. Then adjust the clutch. Then adjust the cable.

Last time I had a problem like yours it turned out that I had reassembled the bottom attachment (the 3 ball bearings) in the wrong position.

You might double check that.

Check the release bearing while you have it apart.

Smile Clutch Cable Issues

Thanks to all who replied, it turned out to be the ramp mechanism that was not oriented correctly so the problem was corrected and my son is out riding right now. I'm trying to get him interested in this forum as it not only contains a mountain of great info but also a way for him to get to see what others out there are doing and riding with their bikes.
