Right now, my recomendation to my brother is Andrews EV13, new 2:1 pipes, carb rejet, and an upgraded ignition module. He can keep his S&S air cleaner assembly.

This light mods should make a very noticeable improvement over stock and I think he'll be happy with the additional power for cruising around both solo and 2 up.

no. Def not a low rpm cam....I think it pulls super hard from like 2800ish and up. Probably more like 3000 rpm

Thank you. That doesn't fit with his riding style (but it would mine!). The EV13 appears to be the best choice.

Interestingly enough, my bro's shop just recommended the Andrews EV46 and a Mikuni carb, along with the 2:1 exhaust. Shop said the EV13 is for heavy bikes. I understand that's the description in the Andrews catalog, but the cam doesn't care about the bike's weight, correct? It will either make power at low, mid, or higher RPM. The EV13 should be a torque monster in a FXR, or am I way off here?

I guess replacing a 25 year old carb can't be a bad thing, but are there any HP gains with the Mikuni, or is it all in the throttle response?

I told my bro that the EV46 is just too much cam and it will not hit until 3K+ rpm and undoubtedly kill his bottom end torque. He doesn't ride that way...

Here's what I did for my build at about 28k miles on my 1990 FLSTC:

Milled the heads 0.050"
Port, polish and valve job.
Andrews EZ-Install adjustable chomoly pushrods (P/N 292245)
S&S Hydraulic tappets (P/N 33-5352)
Hastings moly piston rings (J&P Part: 431-472)
Andrews EV-23 cam (P/N 291123)
Koyo Torrington B-138 cam bearing (P/N B138-C11A)
Cometic C9747 top end gasket kit (P/N ZZ 172081)
Zipper's intake (P/N 117-090)
Crane HI-4N ignition (P/N 8-6100)
Screamin' Eagle coil (P/N 31653-97)
Screamin' Eagle 10mm spark plug wires (P/N 32093-98B)
HD platinum spark plugs
V&H Big Shots Long
Carbs rejetted
Dyno tuned
***I have all my paperwork if you want actual part numbers
***Still using the stock CV carb

Replaced stock cam bearing with a Torrington while it was apart as a safety measure against future known problems with the stock bearing. Put new Hastings piston rings in while everything was apart as well.

This project (did all my own labor except the milling of the heads, headwork and carb rejetting) cost less than $2000 because I'm a voracious hunter of deals to be had (my V&H exhaust cost me $86 shipped!!!) and my old man has every tool known to man (except a piston ring compressor for motorcycles)

I predominately ride 2-up (I'm 240lbs, my lady is 145 with bricks in her pockets), back country roads and state highways here southwest Ohio where we have some decent hills and valleys. I ride in the lower 2/3 of the rpm rage as well. Speeds range from 35 to 75mph.

And I can confidently say this - after this project, my ride is like a totally new machine. It's night and day difference. Am I going to out run the 103" and bigger new bikes? Nope. Will I easily keep up with the pack? You bet your ***. It's mind boggling just how much life this project breathed into my baby.

And I learned a hell of a lot about my motorcycle, how it works, how to work on it, and spent many a weekend with my old man turning wrenches, drinking beers and telling stories.

So a little follow up. My brother bought the EV13 cam and Supertrapp exhaust, it's installed and tuned. I rode the bike a little today---despite the smoke from all the fires here in North Bay.

Turns out the EV13 *is* a nice little bagger cam and works well with this combo. The Supertrapp 2:1 is nice and quiet and the bike runs well, I was able to cruise at 75-80mph much easier than stock, bike likes to pull from the bottom and runs out quite a bit further than the stock '92 cam.

Of course it's still a low end cam, and doesn't have the same kind of power as my twinkie, but for an FXRS with bags and lots of 2-up, it works well. My brother likes the fact that he can ride 2-up and not have to down shift to pass on the freeway.

Thanks to all who provided input. Much appreciated.

That's exactly what that cam is for! Sounds a great ride. You'll have to encourage your brother to join HDF and call in to meet us!
