Default Checking Coil

This subject often comes up, and is always frustrating when you are chasing a non-spark issue. I always need a cheat sheet to get by, because I'm no professional. I don't carry the FSM with me, or have a digital copy for my 89 FLHTC.

So, I put together a cheat sheet (two ways to test a coil- with power source or multi-meter), took a picture of it, and saved it on my phone. I titled this thread easy enough for folks who might be searching for this subject. Hope it helps someone in the future.

FWIW just because a coil passes the resistance test doesn't mean it's good.
I had one that passed the tests but I still didn't get any spark.
Replaced the coil and I had spark.

Very true. Multi-meter test-GO is not always 100%. And it might pass until you put some heat (hair dryer) to it. And just because it's new, it doesn't mean it's good either.
