Default CV to Super E?

Hi guys,

I just bought a S&S Super E carb off a buddy for $150. It came with the air cleaner cover and the backing.

It's definitely not the "kit" and I am trying to put together a shopping list for what I absolutely need to get this carb running.

My CV is running great. I rebuilt it last year and finally dialed in the jets. I just like tinkering with carbs and my pops swears the Super E is better.

Big question: do I need to buy a new S&S intake manifold, or can I used my stock manifold with the Super E?

Thanks in advance,
Clint

Here's my 1998 Superglide. Stock except for EV27, Dyna 2000, coil, etc.

You have to use an S&S intake with the Super E.

If it's running great why change it? CV's are just as good as an S&S.

In my experience S&S is far and away better than the CV!!!!!!!!!
CV isn't even in the same league as the S&S IMO.

For a stock evo it's just fine.

Hey Clint,
I'd be interested in your entire CV setup if you're selling. PM me...
Thanks,
Tom

Oh I agree that a CV will work fine on a stock bike or hell they can be modified to work fine on a built bike.

What I don't agree with is that a CV is just as good as an S&S though.

CV carbs tend to compensate for altitude changes better than a S&S and generally get better fuel mileage if set up proper.

Cv would be my choice. The Japanese can build one heck of a good carb. Look at a mikuni. If I didn't **** mine up I would've kept it.

I'll give you the fuel mileage but I'm not sure on the altitude thing.
The PO of my bike told me he had to mess with the carb when he went up 5k feet and I've had my S&S up 6k feet from normal and it didn't miss a lick.

As for the rest the S&S starts easier and quicker, better throttle response, easier to work on, bolts directly to the intake instead of being sandwiched in place, the enrichener (choke) isn't plastic and prone to breaking like the CV, and last but not least the air cleaner is just cool as hell!!!! (that's all I can think of this early in the morning)
