Fork Lowers

You can definitely polish them as described, did it with a really beat up Softail Custom rear solid wheel years ago that I had on my WG. That said, real PITA and lots of effort. You will be sanding and polishing well past your hand cramping, and then still have a bunch of hours to go. When I did the wheel I would polish it every night with scotch brite for about a week, one hour each night. Then Mother's for an hour every night. Then decided to go for more Scotch Brite etc, etc. Long process but it looked killer after. Lots of work is all I am trying to say, oh and I then had to redo the Mother's every season to keep up with it.
Rear spokes on the bike now, powder coated black, no extra maintenance needed. Good luck.

Make sure the clear coating has been removed, if your doing a lot of sanding you're wasting your time.

I started with 80 grit and worked my way to 1500 and wet sanded it with mothers mag and aluminum polish. I had some beers and sanded then polished. A couple friends stopped by. We had some more beers.... cI have a Dayton grinder and buffer but really did not want to take the forks off to use the machine
