Default Question about wheel bearings

Just making sure I'm not going on the wrong path but is it normal for the wheel bearing to be loose? I took the front wheel off the bike for inspection since the pothole incident. I notice after taking the wheel off,the roller bearing can be push around in all direction inside the race. This has me concerned as I'm not sure if it suppose to be like that or it suppose to be a one sealed

It's normal, yours has the 3/4" tapered Timken bearings, the axle & spacers need to be in place and torqued to hold it all tight.

Even when correctly installed and tightened up the wheels have a little bit of endplay. Many years ago I replaced my shovel front wheel bearings and visited a local auto parts shop, to ask if they had replacements. I didn't say what they were for. Yes of course we do, they are Ford front wheel outer bearings! Many autos use the same design with end float.

Yes, but for clarification for those who may read this now or a year from now, the end play is setup to a specific range using shims. New bearings will change the amount of play (or lack of play) so heads up for those who may not be aware. YD

End play range is 2 - 6 thousandths.

Amen to that. Never tell them what it's for or they will run for cover!
