Where is the best place to order a starter for my 85 FLTC. Not looking to break the bank. Thanks

I prefer the OEM starters from Harley.

I get mine rebuilt by a local shop, Texas Alternator. You may have a similar service near you. Much cheaper than buying a new one.

i would check your area for a "starter, alternator, generator" repair shop. it would be a lot cheeper than buying new.

Yep local much better. If your handy.....I have done my own in a few hours for less than 20 bucks. Brushes and bearing. Turning arm in lathe or a drill press will work.

Here's one half the price of OEM starter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-FITS-HAR...1UJe5l&vxp=mtr

You can then take your time and rebuild the OEM one.

They will also sell you the bearings/clutch if you want to rebuild what you've got. I've done that before also.

Sometimes trying to save money on critical items... cost you more money in the long run.

Pre 89 starters were marginal when new.

Most of the overseas replacements are junk.

Once upon a time, the only upgrades from stock were "all-*****" or "spyke"...both pricey.

Ultima copied the spyke design...while reducing the price. I have had very good luck with these starters. To get the most out of this starter you need to upgrade the battery cables and maybe the battery, depending on what you have. Once you hear how fast these starters crank compared to OEM...your only use for the stock starter will be a doorstop.
