Default Fuel tank and cap question

For the past few months my gas cap has been acting up, it has gotten to where it does not screw in without a fight. I have resorted to pulling the dip stick and oiling up the threads and it is still tight. To the point where all it does is click on the ratchet system half way in. I've used wd40, silicon grease and spray and no lasting fix.
I ordered a new cap about a week ago that does not ratchet and is listed as ventless, it came in today and looks good on the bike. I want to add another one so here are my questions:
1) If I remove the fuel gage will the opening be threaded so I can install another cap?

2) The tank has a vent on it already so I'm thinking the cap does not need to be vented- correct?

The one plus out of all of this is that I can keep an eye on the oil level at every fill up.

No threads in fuel gauge hole, just a rubber grommet. Cap does not need vent.

I don't know about the fuel gauge as I never had a bike with a fuel gauge.

I use pop up caps from JP Cycles.

Part numbers are 7200805 and 7200806

Thanks for the info. I guess I might look into some flush mount kits. In the meantime this will work.

Check these out... Wonder if they're any good? I like the look of the flush mount.

The part numbers I posted fir JP Cycles look similar.

I had Biker's Choice pop up caps before and after a short time they begin leaking between the pop up portion and the part that screws into the tank. I haven't had any trouble with the jp cycles ones I posted so far.

Gasoline in my beard made me nervous. Gasoline in my mouth tasted funny.

Are you talking about a Georgia Credit Card? I know nothing about those(walks away slowly)

Hey I found a deal on a set of flush mount cap and gage - Harley #75014-08A. Parts book says 08 - ? softtails.
Why is that? What would make them not work on my '96 RK?
Thanks.
