When you buy a new speedo from the dealership they won't sell it to you without your current mileage (at least mine wouldn't) and they send the new speedo to someone (or do in inhouse I don't know) and when you get the speedo it has the mileage you told them on it.

They handed me the speedo and said 'you know, back in the day we would have to take your old speedometer and send it in to put the mileage back on' when he said that i got excited and asked if they could do that for me and they said they couldn't.

I guess they stopped then.
I was told about setting it a couple of years ago.

Keep the old speedo and/or a receipt showing the mileage in case you sell the bike and want to prove it.

Meantime, just ride.

Have you contacted the manufacturer of the new speedo and asked them? Seems like they would know. Look around your area for a speedo repair shop, or did all of these go out of business? Check with local Indy repair shops.

Did you get the black-out of LCD odometer on the old unit?

OP if the LCD screen was blacked out IM helped me out with directions on how to change out the screen. On your bike the mileage is retained in the speedo itself so if you change the new screen to your old unit your mileage would be correct.
