Default FXR "Popping" all of a sudden

So I go out to start my 90 FXR after she sat for about 3 weeks and she kept popping under acceleration, kept wanting to die too. I turned around and parked it. after work I went out and cleaned the carb, put it all back together and no better. It keeps surging and dies with or without the choke on. Anyone have any ideas on what would cause it to act this way all of a sudden? Last time I had it out she ran great. Thanks for any help, hoping to enjoy some of this nice but hot weather. - DJ

Could be the rubber gasket that holds the carb to the manifold. I've been through a few of those

^^ On a '90??
Maybe if the Carb is Not supported...That manifold is Not known for simply springing leaks!
My guess is that you have a Inline filter on it...Throw that in the Trash. put a new line on...go.

Good Point. I had assumed the the carb was attached the same way on his 90 as my 97. I've been through a few of those rubber donut gaskets.

If your sure the carb is fine then In an acute condition like this (all of a sudden) i would first take a look at my ignition, more precisely the pick up in the nose cone. Check for melted goo.....

Petcock is in the "on" position ( Cant say I have never done that though), Not the intake, checked seal/gasket/ and intake itself. Never tore into the nose cone, anything special I have to do before unbolting? Im having tons of electrical problems with the bike, going to rewire it completely this winter. I changed the inline filter and replaced the spark plugs just to be safe, still not working. Any other ideas?

Don't unbolt the entire nosecone just the 2 bolts (or 2 rivets then the 2 bolts) holding the cam sensor cover on.

The best way to change an inline filter is change it from your bike to the trash.
