Ive had an annoying jerkiness at slow speed since Ive owned my bike and decided to try re-jetting the CV Carburetor . I figured the slow speed circuit was lean as I have always had to back the air/fuel mixture screw out 3 1/2 turns from bottom. I found that I had a 45 slow and 70 high speed jet installed so, I installed a 48 low speed and 175 high speed set. I would say about half of the jerkiness is gone and I now have the mixture screw set to 1 1/2 turn out. The biggest improvement is how much smoother it is on acceleration from a stop through about 4th gear. When I romp on it at full throttle doing 60 or more, it leaps forward like a champ. I feel pretty good about the high speed jet but, I wonder if I should go to a 50 on the low speed? The plugs look great and are a light tan color right now. I havent replaced the needle yet either. Ive got a new NOKG needle that I could try. Do I have it as good as its going to get or should I make another change? Thanks!
Man how many times to I have to tell you "If it ain't broke don't fix it 'till it is!!!!"?
Put the wrenches down, put your *** in the saddle and ride!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree! Seriously...it sounds like you have her dialed in. I would give it some more miles and see how things go before changing anything. Pull the plugs and do some reading on how to correctly read spark plugs with todays fuels and go from there. It's amazing how much information a spark plug can give you on the state of tune and your engine.
Info on timing, proper jetting in all the circuits, spark plug gap, and correct heat range can all be gathered by knowing how to read a spark plug. Here are a few guides with the first link being my favorite. I have that one stuck on the wall in my shop, the last one is a good guide to compare your plugs with others:
Those look good from what I can see. Just make sure you don't get any pre-ignition or spark knock, I had a battle with that last year after I switched to the Ultima igniton, so far no issues this year after a few changes. YD
