Default New Wiring Harness

Yesterday I started putting on a new wiring harness that I got from J&P (obsolete at HD) and right off the bat I found a problem.
The 3 twelve wire connectors that J&P used were the wrong ones!!!!!

Now came the fun of taking the pins out of the new and the old so that I could use the old connectors with the new harness.
88 pins and a lot of diagrams later everything except the oil light seems to work (broke the sending unit) even though I had to rewire one connector twice because I put the wires in backwards.
Damn things are keyed who knew?????????

The reason I did all this was that every time I had to strip some wire on the old harness it was very corroded up inside the jacket.
I didn't like that one bit!!!!!!!!!!

Found a broken bolt on disassembly so that's my next project.
Of course the damn bolt broke off inside the frame giving me nothing to get a hold of!!!!
Moco says it's supposed to be a grade 5 but I'm going back with an 8!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh well that's for another day when I get a better screw extractor set.

And a major PITA without the right tools!!!
I had put off ordering the male pin connector tool because it's over $100.
I went ahead and ordered it because I don't ever want to work that hard getting a pin connector out again!

Nothing is easy.

Makes me think of those videos that were going around a while back with the guy from Tatro Machine rebuilding an Evo. What I liked about those vids is that they showed all the mistakes, all the do-overs, all the false starts. Stood in sharp contrast to the highly-edited Norm Abrams type where he can build an entire dining room set out of cherry and be done in an hour.

if you use only 14G black wire this time and do a late model FLHTCU with a side car you will never complain again about wiring

the tools help and they sent you the wrong harness BTW
