Got into the carb and here's what's up .... All input welcome
Opened up the carb last night on and found in 1996 convertible
Factory slide ( undrilled)
I assume the factory spring as it measures 5 3/4" and took approximately 13 oz of pressure for full compression ...
N72V needle which I believe is stock according to my parts and service manuals both of which are factory issued and I believe the part number is 27253-96
Mixture screw was drilled and out 3.5 turns
Slow Jet 48 Main Jet 170
The set up before I touched a thing was
Drag pipes ... Factory Air Cleaner ... And I'll assume factory cam...
The first set of plugs I pulled out weeks ago were black ... Changed the plugs to iridium and at the same time changed to the Bassani 2-1 and ordered the Ness BS stage 1 ....
I polished the slide drilled it 7/64 and bought but haven't used the #4 brass washers....
all that I've read here and elsewhere has my head spinning around what to use as a starting point as the last mod this bike will ever see is the EV27 cam and possibly very mild head work ...
Opinions suggestions and criticisms all welcome !
My opinion is that I know enough to know I don't know lol

Here are some Keihin CV tuning resources you may want to take a look at.

I wouldn't have drilled the slide, but it'll probably be fine. It's a preference thing.
I think the N72V needle is a little richer in the midrange...... Think the N72S was stock, but I stand to be corrected by the Gurus around here. In any case, I think the main jet may work better at a 180 when you open up the breather with the Big Sucker. The 48 idle should be pretty close, and was probably too rich with the stock AC, which would explain the plugs being black.
Here's a needle chart I found from an unknown source....
When you get it close, a dyno tune is worthwhile for the fine adjustments.

And there are mixed opinions on the CV equivalent of the early Sporty needle ...
Great advice on the Dyno tune also ... Not looking for anything but awesome torque and reliability as the end game ( hence the cam change later to a mild cam) ... Learned a long time ago in real world street applications and my driving/riding style that the area under the curve matters most to me ...
