Default final drive belt adjustment

I need some advice on adjusting the belt on my 98 Road King. The manual says to have one person sitting on the bike. I don't have an extra person to sit on the bike. What spec can I use for a bike on the sidestand? Does the belt tighten or loosen when one person sits on it?

I never worried about that and never had any trouble.

You don't have a friend, wife, gf, anybody?
Iuse my wifefor the adjustment. She's nowhere near my weight but it gets the tension within the ballpark.

I just sit on mine and reach down and check the belt with my fingers, I just guestimate what 10 lbs of force and I eyeball the distance it deflects.

Do your self a favor and buy a belt tensoir tool, there fairly cheap, belt failure is expensive....bike should be up right with a friend sitting on it, follow your manual for proper belt deflection. also make yuor self an alignment rod, factory manual will have a sketch of how to make one out of a welding rod or coat hanger. and a very small o-ring. Alingment is crucail to good handling, so take your time, get the tools and follow factory specs and you'll maintain a great handling ride
