Default Using one throttle cable

I have a 98 fsxts and trying to clean things up. It has the two throttle cables but I order the wrong push cable or what ever it's called. Was thinking about just using one cable. I know there will be some play on the grip but is there really any problem using just one? Anyone else doing it?

A friend of mine has been using one for decades.
He won't even think about running 2.

Haven't done it myself but have seen a good number that do. If the return on the carb is good it seems to do fine.

It was good enough for Peter Fonda...

Does your bike have enough throttle return spring on the carb to close the throttle all the way?
