Default Replacing my clutch cable

Just want to verify what I need before I order a new clutch cable. My bars are 12" mini apes so, I am assuming I need a +6 cable. Looks like I'll need an exhaust gasket and tranny side cover gasket. Anything else? I am going to order a stainless Barnett cable unless you guys recommend something else. Thanks

I was able to reuse all my gaskets, your results may vary. My bike has the newer coated steel gaskets which are terrific.

There's an o-ring on the clutch cable where it goes into the tranny. I reused mine, you might want to put a new one on. And if your rubber adjuster cover is worn or torn, you might want to replace it at this time. You may need to adjust the clutch itself, again, I was able to reuse the derby gasket with no problems. You'll need some zip ties.

I also ended up changing my tranny oil when I did the clutch cable. If my memory serves I didn't lose much fluid as I did the job on the jiffy stand but I went ahead and did it.

If you ever wanted to install an easier clutch pull, either the HD easy pull kit or the aftermarket ones, now's the time to do that.

There are good videos on youtube on how to adjust the clutch and the cable if you need a refresher. The cable screws into the tranny cover at sort of an odd angle, I spun the tranny cover onto the cable to get it started as I found that easier.

That's about all I can think of. Let us know how it goes.

I really don't think you need +6" cables.

When I had 12" mini apes I used stock cables and that was with 4" curved risers. I did have to reroute them though.

I currently am using stock risers and 16" apes which require a minimum of +4" cables. I probably should be using a +6 clutch cable but what I've got works.

I agree with THC. That seems too long. Use a fabric tape or a piece of string and measure yours and order the same. You don't won't a cable that is too long besides being unsightly the big bow can catch on something or screw with your windshield.

When ordering new cables, some companies give cable length. Compare it to what you have now. Get some tranny fluid (everyone has an opinion on what works best, you'll have to pick one) I like Red Line with Shock Proof. And lastly, snake the cable up and out to the tranny, then screw it into the housing BEFORE connecting it to the lever.

I now have a Diamondback cable, which reduced lever effort a lot. I don't know about the Barnett, but being a modern cable that may also feel much easier to pull than the original stock one. The EZ devices don't work too well IMHO, especially on earlier Evos. I took mine off, after fitting the Diamondback. If you want to reduce lever pull, see if you can find an AMP EZ-pull device - they have stopped making them, but there may still be some available. I got mine from US Ebay, there are several currently advertised.

This might help a bit with cable lengths.

I measured mine at 67 1/2" with a cloth tape measure from where the cable exited the lever to where it enters the trnasmission so, going by the Magnum chart, I guess I need a +4 cable. There is no way a stock cable would reach. Here is a picture of the bow in my current cable. Does that look about right?
