Default Noticed a front end rattle, could brakes be culprit?

I had to go to dr today cause I sprained my foot,(please don't ask how it happened). On the way home I noticed I had a rattle from the front. It only happens when I was moving. When I got home to inspect the bike I noticed what could be the left hand caliper is resting on the rotor. You can see it in the pic below. (sorry for fuzzy pic,not easy getting a cam in a tight spot.

I was just checking with you guys to make sure this could be causing this "rattling" on the front end and not something else.

You probably found your front brake problem, something is screwy with the mounting. The caliper should be parallel with the rotor, and centered.

It seemed there is not much pad at all

Caliper stuck? could be piston is frozen and tweaking the alignment, pull it off and see if it will push back into the caliper. Front brake pads are relatively inexpensive, as is rebuild kit for caliper. Do you have dual discs?

If it needs pads replace both sides while you are there.

There is a whole raft of stuff that could cause a rattle, such as the cowbells loose, fender mountings, etc. If you have floating rotors they can rattle as they get old and worn (you should see my old ones!). Your front brakes certainly need investigating, as apples points out, if only to solve why things seem to be out of alignment.

This what I found when I took off the caliper. This part looks odd. I don't know if it had a pad at all cause I don't recognize this. However you can see the marks where it has been rubbing against the rotor.

Pic of the caliper. Looks ok to me but I may be wrong.

Where's the other pad?
Any meat on it?
