RE: 98 RoadKing ECM
is bike at dealer that reset ecm ? or did it work and now it will not start ? time frame?
if you have the manual you can read the computer codes(trouble codes) if there are computer errors with-out special tools.
section 9-17 of service manual
does it turn-over ? does it not catch? or is it dead?

1-turn ignition key switch to ignition and then turn off 1 second after fuel pump stops.
2.repeat #1 again..remember 1 second after pump stops
3.turn ignition key switch to ignition and wait about 8 seconds for a bunch of flashing of the check engine light
it will then stop for 2 seconds..get ready... these are the codes you must count:
it will slowly flash 1,2,3,5....there is NO 4....this is the first digit of the 2 digit code ..so it can only be 1,2,3,5 __ __
then a 2 second pause...then you will get second digit of the 2 digit code..it can only be 1,2,3,4,5,6
remember after the complete 2 digit code is given you will go back to the rapid flash sequence..
there are a total of 15 codes available with this procedure
examples
52,53,54,55 bad news ECM replacement
56 crank/cam sensor
11 throttle sensor
12 barometric
23 and 32 are injectors front/rear
24 coil
33 fuel pump relay--in this case you would not hear the pump but instead waited 3 seconds after the on / off sequence

RE: 98 RoadKing ECM
The bike is still at the dealer, it was running fine at higher rpms just not when idling wanted to overloadso i figured i would get the download since i put new pipes and a big sucker air cleaner, when they hooked up the computer to the ecm it would get to 49% then lock up the computer after rebooting several times they decided to reset the ecm now all it will do is turn over but will not fire or do anything else just turn over

I have a 98 RKC fuel injected 95th aniv. model.I installeda SE Stage I and Python slip ons. Rather than having the download I bought a Rev Tech Digital Fuel Optimizer (DFO) and installed that. Turned my stock EVO into a beast! The DFO is the way to go because you can tweak it how you want it to run. It only took ten minutes or so to install. The retail for the DFO is $189.00 and you can change or add performance parts and never need to do the downloads each time. You can read a very good article about DFO by Donny Petersen at heavydutycycles.com/digital.htm

i have the power commander II, but the DFO is another option..i used the basic stock map and it works fine.
all i have is a K & N filter and stock pipes with plugs removed...was the DFO difficult to dial in? i see that it is available with stock connections so instal. can not be to bad ?
