I think I need a new oil pump body
My bike has been leaking for awhile out through the case breather when it sits any length of time. Which isn't much because I ride the damn thing all the time. I thought it could just be debris under the check ball so I replaced the spring and ball. Nope still coming out. Anybody want to come over to my house to help me install the new s&s oil pump when I decide to buy it. I don't drink but I have a garage fridge full of beer that's all yours. Haha

at cold start up the oil pressure is very high with lots of volume and the breath valve is the piece in this that would be suspect in how it is sealing it self in the case
if the scratches are many even small light ones from the plastic valve ( some like the 10 cent plastic breather valve i dont ) you will find it cant take the high volume amount of oil being sent to it from the flywheels area at cold start up like you have
before i would spend the money on a S&S oil pump that would even put more oil into the lower unit at cold start up - i would buy the S&S reed breather valve and install it First - then see what happens
i dont care what S&S puts in the directions ( the original ones i have say something completely different then the ones they use today ) i have used them in pan heads / shovels with the oil return system in place sucking oil out of the primary like the original system had and not for a couple of days years - its how it works in a worn out valve hole that i like - this is my take someone else may have a different one

Before you buy the new $S&S oil pump, you could try fixing the one you have. I have read on here: Take a preferably new pushrod, some valve grinding compound and clean up the seat the ball goes into. Or, take a new ball, push it in the hole and whack it with a hammer and punch. Probably best to use a brass punch. Or maybe both? Anyway, I would try that before blowing the bucks on a new one.

If you decide to cough up big bucks for a new oil pump...might look at the TP engineering pump...supposedly puts out a lot more oil pressure at idle.
