Engine Guard

Engine Guard
I'm wanting to order a new engine guard (crash bar) for my 1995 Ultra. The only thing easy to find and cheap are 1997 and up. They look almost identical but I think the mounting plates for the frame are a little different on angles for the 1997 and up. My guard is so damaged from the previous owner I rode with it for years but can't stand it on long trips. I already removed it but I can't tell the difference just from pictures of the new 1997 and up ones. Can anyone tell me if there is an actual difference. I know 1995 was a weird year, but many things fit this bike that say they shouldn't. Like my removable tour pack rack and hardware. This bike only has 35,000 original and I just camm'd it. I want to upgrade to a 2015, but I can't bring myself to retire this bike to another owner. Thanks riders...

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF.
According to my researches your bar is #49184-88A, which was introduced in 1988, so it is not unique to your bike and should be available secondhand, given a little time and perseverance. I have no idea if a later one will fit, however you can compare what they look like by using one of the on-line parts websites, like this one. The lower mounting point looks different, but it is quite possible they will swap round.
