Default Oil Out of the Air Cleaner...

So, I get some oil out of the air cleaner when I ride her for any length of time at speed (I was cruising at just under 80 for about a half hour...). I've heard a couple different theories, but I'm not sure that I have a problem, per se, or that I really need to do anything about it other than wipe the small trickles that accumulate on the rear header and on top of the cone from the dripping.

Still, I hate to leave well enough alone... I am contemplating a re-route to either a catch can, or to a mini filter. Don't think its enough to fill a catch can over one "season," but I had one on my Buell (and on my old race bikes) and feel much better about that than a straight atmospheric dump (only just so)--in any event, much better about it than feeding it back into the intake stream. I have an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Air cleaner, which may be contributing to this "issue."

In reading about it, I've read quite a few Twinkie owners do some sort of mod to accomplish this and some people even sell a "kit" to re-route. Are there any evo owners here that do something similar? What did you do to keep the oil off the rear header/from dripping? TIA!

Isn't that due to your breather system that is routed from your rocker plates into the backing plate of your air cleaner? If so you can cap it off at the backing plate and send it down to a breather filter. I have. If you have a performance motor I can't see putting that back in.

big power motors are not driven like a stock one every one turns the throttle and what we do in the shop, is to send the vent fittings to a T all with 3/8 hose to the end of the rear fender bottom - and let it vent away from anything on the bike

one guy took the hose and layed it over the top of the tour pack - that is not exactly how i had envisioned the install of the hose but it works for him i guess

You don't have a problem as such, other than the symptom of EPA regulations that require engines to ingest their own fumes, which then condense inside the air filter housing and make a mess. My lovely S&S 107" does it too, so you are in good company. On my original engine I installed a small air filter on the breather hose and located it under the seat - where it also made a mess! John's suggestion will probably do the same over time. Choose your poison......

Here's how I had mine routed. Don't mind the zip ties it's only temporary.

I had to run a catch can on all my drag bikes to keep the oil off the track, when you drain the catch can, you find that it is 99% water(condensation) with a little oily foam, on the street, I would just run it out the back.

Any chance you'd have a pic of what's underneath the ac cover? Thx!

I had oil seep from the bottom of my Skull intake on my 2012 Dyna. I would just wipe it away and keep riding.
