You trying to tell me some of the 93 had EFI? I just assumed that being a 93 it had a carb. ..... Not sure what you mean??? I like the EFI on my 2010 but I don't think I'm interested in anything older than about 2006 with fuel injection. Heard too many horror stories about early HD FI. I'm pretty comfortable with carbs both smooth bore and CV. No problem for me.
I guess what I am trying to say is that the '93 is 21 years old and there is no telling what someone has done to it.

I saw the 93 today. What a piece of junk. 34k miles and it looks like last time it was washed was...never. Rust on everything that could rust. Even had rust covering the chrome oil filter! How long do you think it's been since it had an oil change? Needed a new drive belt. Base gaskets were seeping. Nope not interested.

You know that is what bothered me the most. He didn't care enough to even wash the thing before he tried to sell it! At least try to make it look good. But even more disturbing is how little some people care for a nice piece of machinery. OH well.. I walked... there are other deals on the local craigslist..

You don't say what you want to do with it.
For example, are you into restoring a stock collector item, do you want to hot rod one, or just a rat runabout?
Looking at the price of FXR2, 3 and 4 they are affordable these days and a much better base to build on (old cases hold you back if you want to big bore them).
On much older ones, keep an eye out for corrosion on the swing arm mounts and swing arm cracks, and brake lines.
Budget for entirely upgrading the brakes.
This is helpful ...

I just want a nice bike I can ride. Not into custom, hot rods, bobbers or restoration. I'll never have a trailer queen. For me it's the ride. Down to the store for snacks or 1000 miles to a beach. I went to Harbor Freight the other day. 16 miles from home to HF and 126 from Harbor Freight back home. I took the long way.....
