I have a 96 Electra Glide Classic and I want to some how connect an Ipod to the sound system. Everything is stock at this point. The dealer near me told me to go to RadioShack...

any ideas?

 

If you have a tape deck get one of the tapes that has a plug on the end of it made for cd players and plug the ipod into that. You can get one at Radio Shack.

 

"If" your stock radio has an external Auxillary port on the front face , than you can buy a 5 dollar cable to connect the IPOD to the Radio and it will play thru the speakers.

If your radio does not have the AUX port (good chance it won't if it is a Stock HH unit from 96, then you will need to replace the Radio with one that is IPOD compatable.

Since yours is a 96 and you have the new style fairing, I would definitly suggest the following. On this site there is a memeber named FireCap - buy his 2 Channle Amp, and his 6.5" Arc Speaker kit along with an updated radio that is IPOD compatable. The Tunes will complely kick ***.

My Glide is older and I've been running a Pioneer head unit with an IPOD, feeding 4 speakers custom mounted into the Dash for 2 years.

I have it apart right now, to add the ARC 2 channle amp and replacing the 4 speakers with Arc apeakers, talk to Firecap , he will hook you up.

 

Or get an FM transmitter, attach to the ipod, tune into a vacant radio channel and jam. Belkin is about $40.

 

FM transmitter may be your only option at this point.

The solution we found best was using the Biketronics kit to install a Sony radio and now use the Sony iPod adapter. The cables for the Sony iPod adapter are just long enough we can keep it under the seat, and the iPod in the tour pak. The only downside using the Sony iPod adapter is every time you start it up you have to select the right playlist again as it always goes back to the first song on the iPod. We tried the fm transmitter with satelite radio, and it was not too good - the iPod works better for our setup.

 

I've got a 95 Ultra. I use the cassette tape with a plug. Put the tape in, plug it into your Ipod and that's it! You can still use your handlebar controls for volume etc. Works great.
Get it at Best Buy or Radio Shack. About $20.00.
