Hoping some one can help me identify this cam the only markings on it are 58017 The Bike is a 1987 FXRPr

 

Well for starters you have the wrong gasket for the cone. Pull the rockers and pushrods and lifters and then pull the cam and look on the inboard end for any markings. All cam manufacturers list the cam grind on that end except for OEM. If there are no markings, most likely OEM... Take pics of cam inboard end an a profile pic of the cam so we can see the full lobes...

 

I agree that is the wrong Cone Gasket...and Most times it is Bad JuJu to open/remove a cone with the Pushrods IN....
All of My O.E. Cams have been Marked... but all of my Cams are Marked on the Other end!!
I'm Afraid a Better Service Manual is in Order... Unless the Pushrods have been pulled from the top!!!
If that is the case... Ignore any negativity..

 

I'm wondering what the cam cover looks like and whether the heads are stock or top breather ... for various and obvious reasons...

 

Yea... I will assume the Breather is simply removed... if that is indeed a 1987 engine...which ???? Not real new, as I do not see the Mounts for a front mounted Oil Filter housing..
Bets it as an Aftermarket, Chrome Cone????

 

Yeah I forgot about the L & N grind marking.. dang.. maybe I should get on the forums when I first wake up in the morning..

 

Thank you for the replies, looks like the cam is stock. I found the paperwork it has a re manufactured evo in it, from when Harley was doing the evo motor swaps. Breather has been removed, adding S&S oil pump and breather gear. Motor is an 87 bottom breather. Rocker covers are off, with regards to removing the cam cover. I have a service manual, but it doesn't say anything about markings.

 

If it is a Harley Cam... it is Marked on the other end...Hoping it is an "L" cam [stock that year] and Not an "N" cam... which is about the worst EPA Cam H-D had.. Used post 1991...so, when was the Engine "re-furbed"

 

If that is a 87 bottom breather, is that still not the correct cone gasket? Don't know what they did in re-man program.

 

Motor was refurbed in 2010. I will have to check on the gasket. I got hit by a car last July and the motor had a tap, so we replaced the lifters since the push rods were straight. I was pissing oil out of the bottom also, but didnt think to change the breather when we werein there.
