Default Help with rear brake master cylinder rebuild

Got the OEM kit to rebuild my rear master brake cylinder.

Following along okay, except that I can't get this tiny little pin out that's next to the cleave slot. Have tried hammering a small picture hanging nail against it, but the nail just bends.

My understanding is that pin has to go out before I can unscrew and disassemble the rest of it.

Any trick to this that or a tool I don't know about?

I have a set of punches for that. (If it needs to be removed) It will also either need to be in a vise or supported so the pin can go through.
Keep some pressure as you punch the pin out - so the spring doesn't push everything off before you see the order it assembles in. If you have a service manual it shows it all.

Thanks for the advice. That's one of those things I haven't bought before now for some reason.

Went to Lowe's and picked up a set. Put it in my vice, and a 1/16" punch and hammer took it right out.

For future reference.....if you ever need to replace.

You can upgrade the master cylinder to 41755-99F. The whole unit mounts up just fine. Same goes for the late 90’s touring models.

Just ran into a new issue.

Got the rod end out, and the threaded end of it is bent (it's not supposed to be like that, right??).

Ugh. Guess I have to either track down a rod or replace the whole cylinder and return the repair kit, if the dealer will let me.

I might need to look at this since I'm running into a new issue with mine.

If I went that route, how would I mount it up? From looking at pictures it looks like a whole different shape.

Remote reservoirs are additional ingresses for water, best to just get rid of it. The upgrade drops right in.

Make sure your DOT fluids are the same on the replacement. Don't mix 4 and 5 parts. I picked up one from eBay.

Just to clarify, 41755-99F looks to be made for touring models and I'm on a Fatboy.

This will mount on softails? I'm not seeing any mounting holes on it like mine from pictures I've looked at.

Mine (42468-87D):

Upgrade (41755-99F):

(Sorry for the extra attachments. Not sure how that happened.)

Apologies for the bump. Just trying to order the right part...

EVOrider/Dehammer: If I bought #41755-99F, are you saying I could disassemble the cylinder on that and then drop it in to the original housing I already have?

Or is there some way to mount it that I'm not seeing?

The parts catalogue might help you out until someone answers: https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....view?id=273250

I'm just following this in case I can learn something. Good luck with it.
