Default Bikers in Germany, How are your license plates mounted?

Guten Tag,

How do those of you with German-spec bikes and the huge German license plates mount them to the fender? I had one plate completely fall off, and my second one has a good crack halfway down because I only have the small, US-sized plate bracket to work with. Do the German bikes have a full sized plate to mount the 20x22cm plate to? I would prefer to keep it on the fender as opposed to making it a side-mount. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

They make for the Europe size number plate. I am sure you can get one that is OEM from Zur local dealer. if not try Polo, Louis, or Hein Gericke.

I use a 5 mm thick aluminium backing plate behind the license plate...

I think the current German plates are even larger than the current Dutch ones.

Thanks for the replies guys. One of the guys at our machining shop on base is going to make me up a backing plate. No sense in paying for one if I can get it for free right?

Yeah, they come with large sized backing plates attached to the end of the fender. In the case of my Fat Bob, this prolongs the fender downwards and catches a lot more spray and grime as if it wasn't there.

Thanks guys. The guy on base hooked me up with a Backing plate for free (Wouldn't even accept beer...weird). So I am good to go now. I hope.
