Default In need of some input.

Just went from an 04 EG to an 11 RG Custom w/ a 103. LOVE IT! Except for the fact that it wants to set my nuts on fire! Coming from an 88" to the 103" I really have no issues with the current performance except the heat and maybe it could be a little louder. I've read all the posts from full intake, fuel management, exhaust overhauls to just changing the head pipe. Keeping in mind that I'm not actually looking (at this point) for a performance upgrade just heat reduction and the RG is stock from AC to exhaust...what worked best. Thanks

A Stage I upgrade with a catless head pipe and hi-flow air filter along with a good fuel management system like TTS Mastertune and a good tune will make a big difference but will not eliminate all the heat; your nuts will still get warm. There are also some "shields" that are supposed to work; don't know what they are called or how they attach but are supposed to deflect the heat away from the rider and his nuts.

Thanks djl. I have access to a cat-less head pipe and a set of V&H slip ons. The air cleaner, management unit, and tune would need to wait a few weeks. If I swapped the head pipe and left the stock AC and mufflers on until I can get the other items, swap them out, and have it tuned would it start to cool it without it running like hell until the full stage 1?

A lot of the heat is coming from the cat, so removing it will help reduce the heat but without a tune and more fuel to cool the heads; your nuts will still get hot. The ECM is programmed with the cat in mind, so removing the cat will impact the tune. I would wait until I could do it all. JMHO.

Another option that some claim cools things down is a set of XiEDs. Not expensive and could be a stop gap until you can collect all the parts and make the Stage I upgrade, including fuel management and tune, at the same time. I don't consider the XiEDs a permanent solution but if the heat is unbearable, might get you through the summer until you can complete the upgrades?? Do a search on this forum and you should find some members that have installed the XiEDs.
