Default early and late evo pinion gears

does anybody know the difference from a early evo pinion gear and later pinion gear? i think this would get me going in the right direction. its clear my pinion gear dosnt fit properly on pinion shaft and the pinion gear i purchased was for earlier model. if i knew the ID was smaller in later models, that would make sense. any thoughts? I'm going to try to attach a pic
thanks youall!!

I your talking 84-89 compaired to a 90-99,the pinion shafts are completely different and the gears are not interchangable
