Default front cylinder not firing??

ok. just slotted my 45 back into the frame after a freshen up, which my good neighbour kindly pieced together for me.
i go to kick it in the guts and.... nothing..
ok..
check for a spark and its a bit faint and irregular.. so i figure could be coil or leads...
i lash out and give the wla new leads and coil...
first kick and weve got some life! BUT only back pot firing..
check. plugs, leads, coil, timing, valves. all good... could be fuel..
out with the plug and spray some "start ya bastard" down the plug hole, still nothing... not fuel either..
chech and recheck all that ican think think of....
IM STUCK..
any ideas???
