Red face What does this mean?

2006 Sportster xl1200R, I can start the bike, once I turn the throttle the engine starts to misfire and the bike dies. By the way, all of this started after I washed just the bottom half of the motor couple days ago. Did I get water somewhere?

Sounds like maybe the air filter is wet. Take it off and see if the bike runs, but don't ride it that way.

Thanks Wanna Ride, do you still think the air filter is wet even though I only poured the water on the bottom of the engine, I made sure I didn't wet more than I had to. Plus I was no where near the air filter, I will check it out anyway. Thanks for the advise, please keep them coming if you have any other ideas. I just ordered the service manual from our local HD shop here in Hawaii.

It's hard to say. One person's interpretation of "a little bit of water", and someone else's, is two different things.

I'm just applying the troubleshooting fundamentals based on a very little bit of infoprmation. I've seen situations where aq guiy described everything in twenty different conversations, and nothing seemed to make any sense. Then, BAM - looked at the problem one time firsthand, and the problem jumps out at you like a raging bull.

Anohter thing to look at, is ALL the connectors in that area of the bike. Pull them apart, and blow a little air in there, to dry them out. Then shoot some WD-40 in them. Surely won't hurt, and maybe that could be the problem too.

Understand, I just checked the filter. Looks fine. Looks like I have t remove the right foot side cover to get to any wire connectors and check the out and add a little wd40. Appreciate your time

you plugged something up or check the electrical connections. I have a buddy with a sportster and we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start in a parking lot once. I was even trying to replace the starter relay and took a second and re-went over the bike. There it was the power wire for the starter came out of the deutsch connector. Was very hard to see

The bike starts, once I gas it, it starts to sputter and it dies.
