Best starter clutch for these is a Toyota

The solenoid plunger must extend in order to make electrical contact to spin the starter motor.

Well I found my problem. The starter shaft was sheared off. Not sure how I missed seeing that when I switched the clutch but I did.
(In my defense this is my first Harley so it's the first time I had the starter out). Anyway ordered a new one just to be sure.
If I can find a replacement shaft I could have a reserve starter but haven't located one yet.
Thanks to all who tried to help.

Hey, it happens, you at least asked, didn't argue then took the time to go back over things to see. Keep the habit it will serve you well with these things, many just dig deeper holes for themselves, ignoring offered help.

My friend had a shop back in the day. Just told me it was a Toyota from his auto supplier- I don't have the exact PN. Best one I ever used actually. Here are some threads.
