Some people might disagree with me on this statement, however, changed several clutches on my 2008 FLHTC…
all I’ve ever done for fluid is put in 1 quart in my primary. My factory service manual calls for more than that. I think 38 ounces or something.
1 quart of whatever your choice of fluid may be for the primary should be more than enough. I use Belray hypoid gear oil in my transmission. And I use whatever’s handy at Harley Davidson for my primary. Works great and shifting into neutral as smooth as butter when it’s warm. by the way, try and use the top middle of your foot and pull up into neutral instead of your toes, it makes a difference…
Happy trails

I not only don’t disagree I think it may be the key factor contributing to the neutral issue. As said I put 34oz only cuz I chickened out deviating from the factory 38oz and bumped it up. but just may pull out the 2oz I added and see if it makes an even better difference. Be great to only have to buy 1 quart at change time.

Fill the primary until the lube just touches the outside diameter of the clutch basket (bike straight up), make a note of how much it took, now you know how much primary lube to have on hand when you do a change.

This level is correct for all Big Twins since mid `85 (a little low won`t hurt a thing).

I haven't even had a chance to take a look at it. My Goldwing has a leak in one of the forks so I'm in the process of rebuilding them and I also found that the overflow coolant tank had gotten hit with something and there was a small hole and leak so that also delayed my work on the problem with getting the RK into neutral. However, on the last two rides, it just popped right into neutral with no problem.
