Do not use a pencil or wood, it'll snap off in the cylinder

Sorry, but that’s ridiculous.
Did it probably 100 times with exactly zero broken pencils.
Some were still even long enough to use a second or third time.

I agree that it isn’t the right tool for measuring, but the tape measure wouldn’t fit through the spark plug hole.

Ridiculous you say?, stick one in your Harley plug hole and find out.
Google broke pencil while finding TDC.

Best thing is to start over - review some videos online and take a step back.
I have found that that always helps.

Always good to find someone local that may be able to assist.

OP, use a straw and be safe.. Watching overlap of the REAR lifters is fine but you need to adjust the FRONT at this point.. I hope you didn't bend any valves..

Hey @Schex There's always gotta be one guy that's going to give you a hard time.. A solid object makes no sense at all..

Lioke others have said, run the pushrods again and mkae sure you have them in the right order. There are intake and exhuast pushroods. The Woods kit needs zero lash then 4 full turns and having just completed my big bore project I cansay this is the biggest pain in the **** there is.

Also, delete the FM tune and see if it will run or not. I had an issue with getting my tune installed properly too.

Good luck!

I don't use anything.. Simply look what the pushrods are doing on the other cylinder..

man...using that straw and having it blow out the spark plug hole at TDC hasn't failed me yet. i guess after doing it max's way a few times it becomes second nature.

Normally I would recommend that but there are quite a few people out there that don't know the difference between overlap and what to do next..

Even with Max's way (Which is what I use religiously) and the straw you still need to pay attention to what is the compression stroke as it's coming up to TDC..
