Default M8 valve train noise/tick

Folks,

My 2018 FLSB with the M8 107 has a tick in the valvetrain that is pissing me off. I just installed an S&S 465 cam chest kit, which included their quickee push rods. After about 1000 miles with the new parts, the noise persisted; I changed from synthetic back to mineral based oil, but the noise is still there. Is it possible that I did not get enough length adjusted into the pushrods, that is now letting the tick come in after the engine heats up [expands]? I installed the pushrods with "20 flats" of rotation, and some have told me that I should have used 24...
I'm old school enough to think that ticking means wear... I need to get rid of it. Any thoughts/ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Charles

My 2017 fltru had a tick and got worse to the point I had the whole cam chest replaced. Fixed the tick. The replaced parts had no obvious signs of a problem.

24 flats is recommended. Adjusting to this spec won't cost you anything

Go deeper on your lifters. Some of these engines will "grow" up to .100 (or more when really hot). Go down to at least 3/4 of your total lifter travel. in other words, most lifters are about .200 in total travel. Go down to .140-.150. If you have been recommended at 24 flats, your probably using 24 threads per inch pushrods, no? If so, its about .006 per flat, which, X 24 (flats) = about .144 down. That .020 less difference you set your lifters to, could be all the difference between quiet and clackety. Go down about 6 more flats and see if it changes.

Hey prop; first and most important, thanks for your service. You are appreciated a lot. Interesting thought about setting the pushrods 'deeper' into the lifters. I'll have to give that some thought. Appreciate the input.

Folks, I have installed Screamin' Eagle's lash adjuster rocker arms, and the difference in top end noise is remarkable. Almost all of the ticking [at operating temp] is gone. I can recommend them to everyone who has an M8 with noisy rockers/valves; well worth the money, 'cause I can't stand engine noise!
