Default Dyna engine swap

I have a 2001 Dyna WG. Looking to swap engine in this thing. I know that I cannot go to a six speed transmission but wondering what engine options would work without major modifications. Like can I put an 06 engine in here and get fuel injection?

The 99-06 A engine will fit right in but getting fuel injection will be more difficult. Wire harnesses, ECM, ect, ect.

I don't believe an 06' engine will bolt up to your 5 speed trans.

I'd rebuild a '99 to '02 Twin Cam motor before I'd swap one for an '03 or later. (Better crank shaft set up.)

Ok,so used to working on older Chevy’s, but newer to HD. Had the bike a few years, and looking to project it a little bit. With the 99-02 , can I upgrade to fuel injection?

01 and earlier MM fuel injection most concider problematic. Parts are hard to come by and many tuners are not familiar with them. Many who have it switched to carb.
With proper harnesses and everything else you may be able to use tmax ecm.
02 and up use Delphi fuel injection which is superior.
Check out Ronnie's harley parts finder and compare year, model parts diagrams and parts lists. Lot of research.

Absolutely. As stated avoid the touring 99-2001 Magneti Marelli EFI. Delphi is fine.. The really isn't any difference between the EFI motor and carbed. HD built both interchangeably up to 06, except for the 06 dyna.. MM EFI touring did have a different cam and lower gearing. IIRC they only sold EFI in 06 up...
