S&s 509 vs Andrew’s TW48 cam
GoodMorning, I am looking for some advice on these two cam choices: have found a lot of people recommending both, but not any direct comparisons in a 2006 softail. Not planning on doing a big bore, just a cam, big sucker, and a Samson or V&H true dual. Thank you

The later heads included the beehive valve springs introduced in '05. JMHO but I would go with the 48 to take advantage of the higher lift. The 48 would also work in a 98" configuration as well. Not saying other cams might be a better choice in a bigger bore, just saying the 48 will work in both situations; better in the bigger bore.

So your saying the 48 would be better with the bigger bore, but still better in the 88 due to the higher lift?

Just looking at the specs of both cams the 509 looks like it would bring the TQ on sooner where the 48 would come on a few RPMs later. It really comes down to your riding style and use of the bike. Id say the 509 while a great cam is just a small step better than stock where the 48 will have more performance and more of a "modern grind" and be a little more flexible with future mods if you so go that route.
