Down the road a bit . Post, I put the Oil shut off valve fix in my softtail. The valve must have failed. Left the bar and bike sounded funny and started shaking. Buddy came and toed it home we found it had no oil until the valve was unstuck.
Will it be ok to change the oil and run it.

Failed valve means for got to open it.

Over in the world of vintage Nortons somebody developed an oil valve that held your ignition key. You could not get at the key without opening the valve. Although those bikes are prone to filling their sumps while parked, most owners opt to rebuilt their oil pumps instead....

They use a breather valve kit that's sump mounted to pump it out along with crankcase pressure and return it to the primary as I recall.

That's a nice aftermarket bit. Adding a reed valve to the crankcase breathing system also helps reduce leaking and weeping. Back to the original question, on bikes I've owned that liked to fill their sump while parked, my choices were to start them up and ride them more often, or repair/replace the oil pump to help hold back gravity. No inline valve for me, I'm not **** enough to remember it every single time.

Well this is a brand new 3 stage pump that's a much better pump than stock other than the seeping while parked. It won't sump while running high rpms like the stock is prone to because of it way better dual port scavenging. The stock left 8oz in the crank side at shutdown.
Another reed valve used in Norton's is the BMW reed valve in another machined body for case mount. I use an inline version of this that I'm going to drill/tap the spacers for a hard mount.
